August 2024 – Herbs and Kitchen Gardens

For our August meeting we welcomed Interfaith Minister and Advanced Master Gardener Donna Katsuranis.

Club Vice President Jen Lombard and Donna Katsuranis

Donna shared with us a Power Point presentation of “Herbs and Kitchen Gardens.”

Donna covered the “What and Where” of the kitchen garden, the importance of considering what we should grow, where we should grow a garden in our yard, what will our family eat and who will maintain the garden.

We learned about the pH of our soil, what type of fertilizer to use, and the importance of composting, mulching and pest control.  Donna also went over the herbs that grow well in container gardens for the kitchen.

Our Horticulture Table was a bright showing of member’s summer blooms.

Looking ahead to our October meeting, Lori Kniffin will be leading us in decorating pumpkins, members are asked to bring their own pumpkin, real or artificial and scissors.  Materials to decorate will be provided, please feel free to bring materials from home that you would prefer to use.  If you have a glue gun please bring that too.

Artistic Workshop and Exhibits Chair Linda Hooper has prepared a new program idea for our November meeting.  Photographs taken by club members of fall foliage in their gardens or any fall landscape taken in September and October will be displayed.  Members can print their pictures on their computer or by any other means.
