At our September 10, 2018 meeting, the featured speaker was Barb Scala, Certified Master Gardner. She is a regular contributor on Good Morning CT, providing recipes and lifestyle tips. Her presentation, Garden to Table — Edible Gardens & More, covered the top 10 healthiest, nutrient-dense edibles to grow.
Barb Scala takes a refreshing approach to living and eating well. Her talk centered on how to take control of our total well-being and create a balanced life focusing on fresh and healthy foods. In addition to presenting on garden edibles, she also covered edible weeds, edible landscaping, and organic gardening. Composting was included, and Club Members learned about “lasagna composting,” where compost ingredients are layered by content type.
The Club also launched its 2018-2019 membership drive at this meeting. Members assist the Club with its mission of beautifying streets, highways and grounds around public buildings in Shelton. Residents are encouraged to join at any level of gardening – from beginner to master gardener — to learn about all facets of horticulture and preservation of the environment.
For our horticulture table, we welcomed “Rampaging Rudbeckias,” “Outstanding Ornamental Grasses and Sedges,” and gardener’s choice.
Martha Nosal provided a selection of arrangements from her garden for sale to benefit the Club.
